Accessibility Statement
1. Introduction
ASKO is committed to ensuring the accessibility of its products and services in accordance with Directive (EU) 2019/882 on the accessibility requirements for products and services, as well as applicable national legislation. Our goal is to provide an equal user experience for all individuals, regardless of their physical, sensory, or cognitive abilities.
2. Legal Compliance and Compliance Level
This accessibility statement has been prepared in accordance with Directive (EU) 2019/882. A professional compliance analysis and an accessibility assessment of all key digital products and services have been conducted.
Our services are partially compliant with the required accessibility standard Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA and European Standard EN 301 549.
We have implemented a range of accessibility features across our platforms.
Visual Accessibility
- Screen Reader Compatibility: Content is structured using semantic HTML and ARIA attributes to ensure compatibility with screen readers.
- Alternative Text: Non-decorative images include descriptive alternative text to convey meaning to users relying on assistive technologies.
Navigation and Interaction
- Keyboard Navigation: our websites are partially accessible via keyboard.
- Responsive Design: Interfaces are designed to adapt to various screen sizes and orientations, ensuring usability across desktop and mobile devices.
Assistive Technology Support
- Speech Recognition: Input fields and controls are labeled to support voice navigation tools.
- ARIA Landmarks: Key content areas are marked with ARIA landmarks to improve navigation for screen reader users.
- Form Accessibility: form fields are associated with labels or ARIA attributes to ensure their purpose is communicated clearly.
We are continuously working on improving accessibility through regular reviews.
3. Exceptions and Alternative Solutions
Despite our efforts to ensure full accessibility, certain functionalities are still undergoing adjustments. These include:
Keyboard Navigation: Several interactive elements, such as the mega menu, quick search, and footer widgets, present challenges for keyboard-only users. Focus indicators are inconsistently applied, and tab order does not always follow a logical sequence. We are actively working to improve focus visibility and navigation logic.
Contrast and Visual Design: Some UI components, including buttons and quantity selectors, do not meet minimum contrast requirements. These issues are partly due to constraints within the corporate design system. We are exploring the implementation of a high-contrast mode to improve readability.
Screen Reader Compatibility: There are inconsistencies in ARIA implementation, heading structure, and link labeling. For example, missing or duplicated alt texts, non-descriptive page titles, and incorrect heading levels may hinder screen reader navigation. Improvements are underway to ensure semantic structure and meaningful labeling.
Image Descriptions: A number of images lack appropriate alternative text or use filenames as alt text. We are updating our content to ensure all meaningful images have descriptive alt texts, and decorative images are properly marked.
Zoom and Scaling: The site currently restricts zoom functionality due to the use of user-scalable=no in the viewport meta tag. This affects usability at higher zoom levels, particularly in the checkout process and store locator. We are working to enable full zoom support without compromising layout integrity.
Form Accessibility: Several form-related elements present accessibility challenges. These include missing or incorrect labels, unclickable tabs misidentified as links, and inconsistent behavior when interacting with checkboxes using a keyboard. Additionally, some components lack accessible names or contain duplicate IDs, which can prevent screen readers from conveying the correct information. Users may also encounter difficulties accessing help content or receiving clear guidance when input errors occur. We are addressing these issues by ensuring proper labeling, improving keyboard operability, and enhancing error feedback mechanisms.
We’re planning the remediation of the above-mentioned issues to be implemented in the course of 2025..
As alternative solutions, we provide customized support services for users requiring additional assistance.
